Ronald C. Meyer, age 83 died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center.

He was born February 4, 1931, in Canton son of the late Chauncey and Ada (Christen) Meyer.

He was a 1949 graduate of Timken Vocational High School in Canton, Ohio and attended Kent State University in 1954-1956 where he majored in Business Administration. Ron served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954. He was honorably discharged as Navy 3rd Class P.O. after serving on the Battleship USS New Jersey.

His work years were with Diebold, U.S. Ceramic Tile and worked for many years in the Stark County Engineers Department as a Sanitary Sewer Inspector.

Ron was a friendly guy in fact, his late father-in-law said 'Ron never met a stranger.' He loved his house and his yard and was always busy making improvements. He was an avid keyboard player and was known in the community for his expertise at playing the piano.

Ron was married for 56 years to Janice C. (Scharver) Meyer. Janice was the Executive Director of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival for 26 years and Ron was a great help to her and assisted her in planning many new events for the Festival.

Survivors include his wife, Janice, cousins Douglas and Deborah Smith, Caitlin, Kara and Shay Smith, Ronald and Anita Smith, plus other close cousins the Vogelgesangs and extended family.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel 639 First St. N.E, Massillon from 3 to 5 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
