After a brief hospital stay, Shirley Marie Prather went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the age of 81.

Born in 1934 in Massillon to the late Edward Hartley and Mary Lavon Halter. Shirley was a Massillon Washington High School graduate.  She was a homemaker and loved to do administrative work.

Shirley was a longtime member of Cathedral of Life where she loved to worship and fellowship.  To know Shirley, was to love Shirley.  She was kind and had a youthful zest for life.  She loved good food, her children, and weekly activities with friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joseph Orland Prather; a son, Lawrence Wayne Prather and her grandmother, who raised her, Rose Halter.

She is survived by her children, Wesley (Vernita) Prather, James Prather, Tom (Constance) Prather, Mary (John) Crawford and Eldridge (Whitney) Prather; and twelve grandchildren: Janet (Brian) Walters, Brian (Lisa) Paul, Jessica Prather, Jeremy Crawford, Joshua (Lacey) Crawford, Christopher Crawford, Margaret Prather, Joseph Prather, Marcus (Crystal) Miller, Michael (Amanda) Miller, Melissa (Jeffery) Howenstine, and Travis Moore.  Shirley had 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Cathedral of Life, 4111 38th St NW, Canton OH 44718, at 11am with Pastor Dana Grammill officiating.

The Heitger Funeral Home Massillon Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 from 6 to 8pm at Heitger Massillon Chapel, 639 First St NE and on Tuesday, at the church an hour prior to the service 10-11am.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, in North Canton.
