Velda A. Gadd, age 88 of Massillon passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 17, 1925 in Alliance, Ohio, one of eighteen children and daughter of the late George and Angie (Lynn) Shonk.

Velda had worked at the former Massillon Community Hospital in the cafeteria.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Eagles #190 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed cooking and bowling.

Velda is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Gloria Shanklin of Massillon, daughter Darlene Spino of North Canton, her last sister Helen Talischak of Texas, grandchildren, Lori Norcia, Timothy Shanklin and Deborah Compain, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and fifteen brothers and sisters, Velda was preceded in death by her first husband Glenn Shanklin who died in 1969, her second husband Earl Gadd who died 1977 and son-in-law Patsy Spino who died 2014.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 11 A.m. at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel with Fr. Thomas Bishop officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 to 11 A.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
