Wayne C. Sand, age 87, of Massillon, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 following a brief illness. He was born July 4, 1936, in Massillon the son of the late Carl and Clara (Shonk) Sand. Wayne was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Wayne retired from Superior Meats after 33 years of service and had also worked at Pitts Fire Extinguisher Company. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Wayne enjoyed watching great-grandkids play sports, football, and sitting and watching TV with Molly. Wayne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carole J. (McCullough) Sand; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Theresa Sand; daughter and son-in-law, Jodie and John Vega; sister, Margaret (Richard) Leyda; grandchildren, Brenden Sand, Krysten Jenkins, Corin Sand, Cody Vega, Jared Vega; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Thomas Sand. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church, 1900 Wales Road NE at 12:00 Noon. Calling hours will be held from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. at the church prior to the service. Burial to follow the service at Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon.
