On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, Andrew (Andy) A. Paul, loving husband, and father of four passed away at age 93.
Andrew was born in McKeesport, PA to Frances (Link) and Martin Paul (Pavel). He was the seventh of nine children.
Andrew graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1947 where he was a 3 Star member of the Tiger Swing Band. As an accomplished trumpet player, he was a member of the 5-piece dance band, the Melody Masters. In addition, he played at many school functions and other community events. As a loyal Massillon Tiger fan, he would spend the football season watching the team play either in person or on TV through the 2021 season.
After high school, he worked at Republic Steel in Massillon. Andrew started as a furnace operator at Republic’s 18-inch Mill at the Oberlin Road plant, then went to the company Mail Room. From there, he continued to work his way up to a lead position as Manager of Order and Production Planning at Republic Steel Corporation’s Union Drawn Division in Massillon. He retired in 1983 after 36 years of service.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed vacations at Mackinac Island, Myrtle Beach, and Florida through the years in addition to almost daily rounds of golf here in Stark County or on vacation. Family gatherings were always a bright spot in his life. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He shared his love of music, sports, and good food with everyone.
Andrew attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon where he sang in the choir. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus in Massillon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Michael, Martin and William, sisters Rose (Albert Carmola) and Frances (Anthony Leone).
He is survived by his wife Alice (Hammer) of 72 years and his four children Richard (Kathleen Biedenbach), Rebecca (John Nussbaumer), Mary (Robert Zwisler), Amy (Doug Schiefer), eight grandchildren and 13+ great grandchildren. Andrew is also survived by two sisters, Mary (Richard Repp) and Joan (John Sewell), many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Paul family wants to thank his caregivers and Crossroads Hospice for their care and support during his lengthy illness.
Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon on Saturday, July 9, 2022. at 10 A.M. with The Very Rev. Canon Matthew Mankowski celebrant.
Visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M.
His final place of rest will be Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
