Betty A. Alexander (nee Gavlenski), age 69 of North Canton, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Akron City Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born in Martins Ferry, OH and later raised in Cleveland.
She was the loving daughter of James and Helen (Bugay) Gavlenski, both deceased. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, James W. Alexander; sister-in-law, Sue Alexander; step-son, James R. Alexander (Pam) and her treasured grandson, Jimmy; brother-in-law, Joe Kopczysnki; sister-in-law, Jamie Gavlenski; and nieces, Sarah & Amy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Trudy Kopczynski and brother, James Gavlenski.
Betty retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 30 years of service. One of Betty’s hobbies was crocheting. Betty spent thousands of volunteer hours crocheting baby blankets for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, having exceeded in excess of 10,000 hours of service and hundreds of “Babies First Sea Bag” blankets donated over the decades. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world alongside her husband Jim, mostly to beach-side destinations, as well as cruising to foreign lands. Those that knew her well, knew of her love of sugary treats, as she often had a stash of sweet tarts, nerds, or some sort of sour candy nearby.
Friends can gather at Betty's Celebration of Life Ceremony at 6pm Wednesday May 19th at The Chapel, Green Campus, 1800 Raber Road, Uniontown OH. Enter through Door D.
