Obituary

Chalmer Joseph Smith passed away peacefully at Rose Lane on May 11, 2023.
Chalmer was born on August 25th, 1936 in Massillon, Ohio. Chalmer was a life-long
man of faith and a member of Saint Mary’s, Saint Barbara’s and Saint Joan of Arc Churches.   He graduated from Central Catholic in 1954. He served two years in the US Army where he served in West Germany and was honorably discharged from the heavy weapons division and recognized as a marksman. He worked for 42 years at Eaton Engineered Fasteners. He was a social guy and was an active member of the St. Mary’s Choir, the Knights of Columbus where he served as an officer, and played in the golf and bowling leagues. His favorite past-time was fishing and he fished in numerous lakes throughout Ohio where you could hear him yell, “Atta Boy Smitty!” Some of his most memorable moments were when he would take his family to Rice Lake, Ontario for annual fishing trips where he once landed a 51” Trophy Musky. CJ spent his retirement years on Myers Lake fishing in his pontoon boat with friends and family and watching Cleveland baseball.
Chalmer is preceded in death by his parents Chalmer and Irene Smith.
He is survived by the love of his life, Cynthia (Arntz) of almost 60 years, children Connie (Bill) Shane, Christopher (Lisa) Smith, Cheryl (Tom) Brand, Chad Smith (José González), and Clint Smith and two sisters Jeanie (Samuel) Wilson and Lynne (Robert) Catcott. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Kyle Shane, Andrew Shane, Kayla Shane, Kennedy Brand, Taylor Brand, Cole Smith, Wyatt Smith, Ethan Smith and Ellie Smith.
