Born February 1, 1947, Charles William, ("Chuck, CW, Billy") was the first born of Charles ("Chub") and Helen Stephon. He would soon become an older brother to 3 little sisters; Barbara Henry, Patty Crescio, and Julie Stephon. He attended New Philadelphia High School and shortly after graduating in 1965, he enlisted in the US Air Force. Before being called to serve in Vietnam, he took wedding vows and married Rebecca in the spring of 1969 and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with friends and family. When he returned home, they soon began their own family. Together, they created life
and his 2 daughters, Mellissa Nettleton and Miranda Squibbs, were proud to call him Papa.
During these years, Charles worked in maintenance as an electrician for companies that included Marlite (Dover), Superior Meats (Massillon), and Heinz (Massillon). Even after retirement, he worked part-time at Echoing Ridge Nursing Home (Canal Fulton) to fill his time. It's no surprise that he spent his free time with that same unmistakeable conviction. He was an avid pool player, shot darts, played baseball, bowling, golfing, and most loved sitting on a river bank with a fishing line in the water but could also be found at the Massillon Moose Lodge #481, spending time with friends.
His devotion and love for his family grew with the arrival of each grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren; Larry James (LJ) and Levi. With them, he was always grateful to share his stories, his humor, and his spirit. He leaves each one; Josh, Paul, Hannah, David, Martha, Adam, and Brooke with unique memories to cherish in their hearts.
Charles was a brave warrior and on October 3rd, 2019, his battle came to an end with his wife and daughters by his side. Services are being held at Heigter Funeral Home in Jackson Township from 2-5PM on Thursday, October 10th. At 4:15, we will ask that everyone be seated and give their attention to the family as we speak briefly. Friends and family are invited to join us at the address below following the service to eat, celebrate his life, and share stories around the bonfire.
