Donald W. Heitger, Jr., age 64 of Massillon died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 29th, 2021.
He was born on August 29th, 1956 in Massillon, the son of the late Donald and Joan (Meinhart) Heitger.
Don’s first love and passion was music. He used his talents working with many local musicians as a sound engineer in the 70’s. Don enjoyed watching and discussing everything about racing. Whether it was drag racing, 24 hour endurance racing, road courses or oval tracks, he especially loved NASCAR. He loved participating in get-togethers with his family, particularly on race day. His favorites were the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500. Don would pack a cooler, bring an appetite and make a full day marathon of the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. He also loved working on cars, talking, reminiscing about cars and driving cars. Don liked to host small gatherings with his brothers and he was always there to give advice, to lend a hand or just to talk. If it was dinner time you may have seen him at the B&K Diner.
He retired from Clearwater August 28, 2020 after 16 years with the business; performing sales, installation, and warehouse duties.
Don was a veteran of the US Navy and served as a pharmacy technician while in the service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a member of the NRA.
He is survived by his siblings: Mark (Linda) Heitger of Canton, John (Debby) Heitger of Smithville, Matthew Heitger of Canton, Joni Heitger (Michael Marion) of Perry Twp., Christopher Heitger (Joseph Clauser) of Akron and Kurt Heitger of Massillon; and his nephews and niece: Nicholas, Anton, Craig, Samantha, Edward, Dustin, Eric and Joseph.
