Donald Lee Marchand, age 74 died peacefully this week from cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born in Canton, Ohio on September 18, 1940 to the late Harold and Marie (DeMuesy) Marchand.  He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Roy Scheetz, nephew Todd Seitz and niece, Ellen Stuffel.
After attending North Canton St. Paul's School, Don graduated from Canton Central Catholic in 1958.  A Bachelor of Arts degree was obtained in 1962 from the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati.  After four years of Theology Study he was ordained a priest in May, 1966 for the Diocese of Youngstown,  The next two summers after attending Xavier University and Catholic University of America, Don earned a Masters Degree in Theology.
As a priest his assignments included assistant pastor of Holy Family Parish in Poland, Ohio and teacher at Cardinal Mooney High School.  He also was chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospice Louisville, Ohio and pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Canton.  While a pastor in Canton he taught at Canton Central Catholic.
After 15 years Don left the priesthood to become a self employed owner-operator of Brookfield Bake Shoppe in Massillon.  In September 2013 he retired from the bakery after 35 years.
Don's hobbies included biking, snow skiing, working picture puzzles and quilting.
Surviving are his brother Larry (Betsy) Marchand and sisters, Carole Scheetz and Joan (Bill) Seitz.  Also surviving are 11 nephews and nieces, 28 grand nephews and nieces and one great-grand niece.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Don's caregiver and friend, Myra, for her compassion and devotion during his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Canton on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10 A.M.
Calling hours will be at St. Michael's from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. on Saturday prior to the mass.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Villa Maria Convent, Development Office, Wendy Wareham, P O Box 532, Villa Maria, PA  16155.
