Genevieve R. Egan of Massillon passed away peacefully at Bethany Nursing Home Assisted Living on Sunday, June 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 23, 1925, in Massillon, Ohio, Jenny graduated from Washington High School and entered the Nurse Cadet training program at Massillon City Hospital to become a registered nurse. She married the love of her life, Robert B. Egan, on February 26, 1949, until he passed in May 2005. Jenny did many years of private duty nursing, was a member of St. Mary parish and choir, Shady Hollow 9-Holers, and active with the American Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Stanley and Bernice Makowski, brothers John Makowski, Theodore Makowski, Edmund Makowski, Richard Makowski, and sister Stella Kiko. She is survived by daughters Susan (Paul Dougherty) Kelly, and Dr. Elizabeth Baum (John), grandchildren, Robert (Samantha) Baum, John (Sarah) Baum, Abbey (Scott) Beigie, Joseph Baum, Dr. Elizabeth (Mark) Butterworth, and great granddaughters, Alexandria Baum, Lillian and Sadie Baum; sisters, Heddie Osborn, Alice Holton, Joann Dottavio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jenny also leaves her faithful canine guardian angel, Jasper, who made all her days brighter.
A very special thank you to the entire staff of Bethany Nursing Home for all their heartfelt love and care during Jenny’s seven-year stay.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Heitger’s Funeral Home in Massillon, 639 1st St NE, from 10 a.m. – 12 noon, with the funeral mass immediately following at St. Mary Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethany Nursing Home for the benefit of the residents who live there.
