Gerald L. Meyer, age 89 of Jackson Township, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Aultman Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 19, 1934, in Bolivar, the son of late Otto and Esther (Schario) Meyer. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a veteran serving in the Navy and in the Army and Air Force Reserves. Gerald retired from the Hoover Company after 32 years of service. He had worked part time for Heitger Funeral Home, Waltner Funeral Home, and Renners. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Campus, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and 4th Degree. He enjoyed camping, football, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosemarie (Jordan) Meyer; children, Gary Meyer, Denise (Dave) Widing, Mike (Karen) Meyer; seven grandchildren, Ashley Stahleker (Matt Clegg), Andrew Widing, Christopher Widing, Zachary Meyer (Amy Kollar), Megan Meyer, Jacob Rickard, Lizzy Rickard; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Matthew, Kayden, Lillyanna; siblings, Charles (Mary Jo) Meyer and Martha Zwick. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus and Virgil Meyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Campus, 322 Third St. SE, Massillon at 11 AM with Rev. Michael Seifert celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW, Massillon from 5 PM to 8 PM. His final place of rest will be Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in North Canton.
