Gerald L. Gray, age 82 of Massillon, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Amherst Meadows.
He was born June 8, 1941, in Massillon, the son of the late Eugene and Irene (Heitger) Gray.
Jerry was an Army veteran.
Jerry retired in 1999 from Bethlehem Steel (LTV, Enduro Division) as a metallurgical specialist after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish - St. Mary Campus, Eagles 190, Amvets Post 12, Massillon VFW 3120, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor, his mechanical aptitude and creativity. He loved to fix, customize, and make things better, shown in his many creations from scraps of stainless steel.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anita M. (Heckathorn) Gray; son, Aaron (Kathy) Gray; daughter, Karen (Richard) Norris Slabaugh; five grandchildren, Katelyne Norris, Allison Norris, Cassie Slabaugh, Andrew Gray, and Marybeth Gray.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, David E. Gray and James "Danny" Gray.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Mary Campus, 206 Cherry Rd. NE at 11:00 am with Very Rev. James E. Sheridan, J.C.L., V.F. celebrant.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel,639 1st St NE, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Burial to follow the service at Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon.
