Helen Smith Obituary

Helen E. Smith, 72, of Malvern, entered into heavens gates on Easter morning, March 31,2024 after a brief illness.
She was born on August 28, 1951, in Malvern, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Elsie Hawkins.
Mom had worked small local jobs to help with family income, and she enjoyed supporting her two sons when  we were  young in whatever miss-adventures we got ourselves into. She raised us as Christian boys, (Rev. Dale W. Smith and Shane Smith, who survive, ) in the Robertsville Wesleyan Methodist Church where she and many of her family had been long time members.  She had a heart of gold, but could be stern and strict when she needed to be. But us boys helped her develop those skills.
She enjoyed volunteering at local care centers helping the residents enjoy quality of life.  She had a very generous heart and poured love into as many people as she could. She was willing to help anybody in need and enjoyed seeing people taken care of.
In addition to her two sons, she is survived by Dale’s wife, Vonda, granddaughters Ashley Fithen, and Emma Smith;  grandsons,  Zachariah ( Elizabeth Wilden) Smith,  Aron Smith and William Smith; great grandchildren, Ashlynn, Aliza, Avery, and Wilder, all of whom she loved unconditionally. Sister Linda (Dan) Grimes, and brother Michael Hawkins.  Dozens of nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters; Elsie Crawford, Florence Johnson, Shelby Baxter, and Elizabeth Myers, and brothers; William, Tom, Harold, John, Elmo, Bobby, Charlie and Clyde Hawkins.
She married the love of her life Dale Smith, Sr. on November 23, 1968. He preceded her in death in 2006.
To enable her many friends and family a time to grieve and support one another, calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 9:30 A.m. to 11:30 A.M.  at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel with a brief service to follow beginning at 11:30 A.M. Rev. Dale Smith will officiate.  Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery.
