James T. McKinnon, age 77 of Jackson Township, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023 at his home.
He was born April 17, 1946, in Quincy, Massachusetts the son of the late Douglas and Helen (Quenney) McKinnon.
James graduated from Sterling High School in Summerdale, NJ and accepted a full football scholarship from Kent State where he graduated with a bachelors degree in biology and a Masters degree in public health. He continued attending classes at Akron U and Kent State into his 70s.
James retired from Akron Kenmore High School where he was a biology teacher, football coach, track coach, and athletic director for his entire career.
He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. He was an avid photographer and won several awards for his photography. He loved watching his grandsons play sports.
James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn (Wolf) McKinnon; sons, James (Rhonda) McKinnon, Thomas (Mandy) McKinnon; grandsons, James, Carter, and Jefferson; sister-in-law, Jan Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas McKinnon; brother-in-law, Richard Wolf.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd, Norton at 11 AM with Rev. Louis Thomas celebrant.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW, Massillon, from 4PM to 6PM.
