John Philip Covert

John Philip Covert passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 after a long battle with Lewy Bodies Dementia.
He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio to Glenn and Dorothy Covert on December 3rd, 1946. John graduated  from Tuslaw High School in 1965 before entering the U.S. Navy from 1965 -1969, including 11 months in Vietnam on the rivers as a gunner's mate. He then worked for what is now known as Aqua Ohio Water, starting as a meter reader and retiring in 2001 from the filter plant as a lab technician/plant operator.  
He married his surviving wife, Betty J. (Baker) Covert on February 14, 1970, celebrating 53 years; He is also survived by his son, Scott (Kerry) Covert; daughter, Brenda (Jason) Hall; five grandchildren, Emma, Jeremiah, and Jacob Covert, & Marisa and Alaina Hall. 
John shared three passions known by many; he was well known on the west side of Massillon as the Walker guy, walking many miles each day carrying his trusty walking stick that he said he used to ward off ugly women and mean dogs.  He had a love for fishing that he shared with his Dad and then later with his family and friends on Middle Bass Island in Lake Erie. Also, anyone that knew John knew he had a great love for his beer, referring to himself as The Beer Connoisseur.
A special thank you to his devoted friends, Steve, Rich, Mike, and Gary that came to visit him often reminiscing about the good old days, politics, and fishing trips.
As per his wishes, there will be no funeral, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date for family and friends.  He will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
