John “Bob” R. Hickman, age 73 of North Canton, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at Akron City Hospital following a long illness. He was born October 16, 1949, in Loudon, TN the son of the late John and Margaret (Thornburg) Hickman. John received his MBA from Case Western in 1985. He was a chemical engineer and consultant that retired after 47 years of service in the plastics industry. Owning his own business since 1988 Plastech Consulting. He was a member of The Society of Plastics Engineers and a former member of Society of Plastics Industry; ultimately being awarded University of Akron Plastics Hall of Honor 2004. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret “Peg” Hickman; son, Robert Hickman; two daughters, Pamela (Brian) Keel, Deborah (David) Sanshuck; grandchildren, Caroline, Andrea, Wyatt, Garrett Hickman, Kevin (Rachel), Nathan, Emma, Abby, Lilly Keel, Tyler, Shelby, Travis, Savannah Dumire; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sylvia Keel; and three nieces, Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Margaret. He was preceded in death by brother, Michael Hickman and sister, Lou Ann Redd. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW, Massillon at 1 PM. Calling hours will be held two hours prior to the service from 11 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in North Canton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
