John W. Sonnhalter, age 78 of Massillon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his residence. He was born August 21, 1942, in Massillon the son of the late John and Amelia (Youngman) Sonnhalter. John retired in 2008 from Phillips Metals after 30 years of service. He was a member of Sixteen St. John's Church. He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors. Most importantly, he enjoyed the time spent with his family. Big John liked breakfast and lunch dates with friends and spending time with his buddies at Kennards Gun Club. John is survived by daughters, Melissa R. (Doug) Price and Tara M. (Nicholas) Nussbaum; step-sons, Bradley R. (Jodi) Williams; Brian R. Williams (Tara Willis); eight grandchildren, Morgan, Sydney, and Riley Price, Nicholas, Alexia and Alexander Nussbaum, Briley Williams, and Avianna Williams; and special lady friend, Rosemary Mays. He was preceded in death by wife, Alyce (Kilgore) Sonnhalter, infant son, John Derek Sonnhalter. Family and Friends are welcome to attend funeral services on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 12 Noon at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel with Rev. Tom Hough officiating. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 A.M. Burial to follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Massillon.
