Larry E. Valentine, age 78, of Massillon, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Rose Lane Care Facility following an extended decline of corticobasal degeneration. He was born June 7, 1944, in Providence, RI, the son of the late George and Mary (Miller) Valentine. Larry was retired from Republic Steel Corporation after 30+ years. He more recently worked at Ziegler Bolt and Nut. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Larry enjoyed sports, especially the Massillon tigers, camping, country music, fishing, and especially his family. Through the years, he was a member of American Legion, Sons and Daughters of Herman, AMVETS, and Eagles. Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sarah J. (Shook) Valentine; daughters, Katie (Tad) Decker, Theresa Valentine, Carol (Mike) Pritchard and Cathy (Mark) Kester, and step-daughters, Molly Romig, Melissa (Stephen) Clements; daughter-in-law, Tracy Meese; brothers, George (Kim) Valentine, David (Karen) Valentine, Mark (Sharon) Valentine; sister, Debbie Valentine; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Mike Meese, brother, Terry Valentine and nephew Travis Valentine. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave NW, Massillon, at 11 A.M. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home and again on Thursday from 10:30 to 11 A.M. prior to the service. Burial to follow the service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SAM Center, 413 Lincoln Way E., Massillon, Ohio 44646.
