Patricia Buck Obituary

Patricia Louise Drury Buck, age 79 of North Canton, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 surrounded by her family in her home. Patty developed Alzheimer’s Disease in her early 70’s. She was cared for by her husband, family and Compassionate Care of Akron in her home.
Patty was born in Canton on February 15th, 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha (Eckroate) Drury of Jackson Township. Patty is survived by her husband, Al Buck, daughters Lisa (John) Ahern and Melissa Buck; two grandsons, Christopher and Steven Ahern; her brothers, William (Suzanne) Drury and Dennis (Mary) Drury.
Patty graduated from Jackson High School and Gerber Beauty School. She also attended the University of Akron. She was self employed as an owner and operator of her own hair salon, Hair Styling By Patricia and Li Me Gift Shop for over 55years.
Patty was a huge advocate for her daughter, Melissa, who was born with a developmental disability, especially when it came to her education at Eastgate and Southgate Schools. Some of the many areas that Patty became involved in as a result of her daughter included: volunteering as a room mother and starting/leading Parent Groups at both schools. She had a special needs Girl Scout Troup for several years. She served on the Board of Directors for Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities for 8 years. She was president of New Life Homes (homes for the deaf), which later absorbed into Sifferin Inc. She would often cook meals for individuals at Sifferin and volunteered at their fund raising events. She volunteered at Applecreek. As a result of all her hard work and dedication to making lives of individuals with disabilities better, she was named “Ohio Mother of the Year by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
Patty enjoyed sewing for her daughters and later baby sitting for her grandsons.  She loved to travel especially visiting Hilton Head, Disney World and went on over 35 cruises. She also enjoyed watching her grandsons participate in sporting events.
Patty and her husband, Al, spent over 40 years restoring their Century home in Plain Township that was built in 1821. The layer of green paint almost made her throw in the towel and move.
Patty will be deeply missed by her husband of 56 years and her family and friends. Her compassionate, kind and loving heart is what made her stand out to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A very special “Thank you” to Hospice Nurse, Tiffany; aids, Kim and Beth; and Chaplain Tom from Compassionate Care of Akron.
The family will have calling hours on Monday, August 30, 2021, from 4 to 7 P.M.  and the funeral will be Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Heitger Funeral Home which is located on 5850 Wales Ave NW, Massillon, OH 44646 beginning at 11 A.M.
