Phillip Lee Simmons, 92, passed away on Christmas Eve morning in Canton, Ohio. Phil was born in Akron, Ohio on July 7, 1931 to Wilma and Jerry Simmons. He graduated from East High School in 1950 where he was a member of the 1948 District Champion Track Team. He was also a graduate of The University of Akron. Phil proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing baseball. He was a member of New Franklin Masonic Lodge # 803 for over 60 years. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1986 with 32 years of service.
After retirement, Phil and Pat enjoyed many cruises and dream vacations. They wintered at Breckenridge in Estero, Florida for 18 years until Phil’s health began to decline.
Besides his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his beloved son Tim; his brothers Jim (Mitzi) and Dave.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Pat; daughter Shelee Corrigan (Patrick); son David Simmons; grandchildren Tricia Jones (Randy) and Matt Simmons; great-grandchildren Micaela and Baby Jack Jones. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law Darlene Simmons and sister-in-law Lynne Simmons.
Phil was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
Private services for the family have been held. His final place of rest will be Greensburg Cemetery.
