Raymond Gardner, age 95, of Massillon, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022.
He was born September 25, 1926, in Winesburg, Ohio, the son of Charles R. and Gladys C. (Feigert) Gardner.
Raymond was a veteran of WWII and had served on the U.S.S. South Dakota as a Fireman First Class.
Raymond worked at the former Griscom-Russell where he met his late wife of 52 years, Harriett (Koontz) Gardner. She passed away in 2005.
Raymond enjoyed many occupations throughout his career as an industrial engineer. He developed and patented a method of internally welding tubes to tube sheets which resulted in significant reduction of the size of heat exchangers used in atomic energy products, and the process became an industry standard. He always enjoyed experimenting with new occupations of which he had many over his career.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. During his later years, he established a seniors group that met monthly at various restaurants for activities and socializing. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques throughout the country and spent many weekends with his wife at antique shows and flea markets.
Raymond is survived by his son, John R. Gardner; daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Donald Anthony; brother, David L. Gardner, and grandson, Devin Gardner-Anthony.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Marie Gardner who died in 1959.
Private services will be held for the family.
