Thomas Jacquet Obituary

Thomas L. Jacquet, age 76, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024. He is survived by his brothers and their spouses Robert (Patricia) Jacquet and Jeffrey (Tisha) Jacquet; three children and their spouses Jeremiah (Yuuri) Jacquet, Joshua (Christy) Jacquet, and Aleesha (Matthew) McCormick; 8 grandchildren: Koushin, Judah, Josiah, Cole, Vesper, Elden, Allen and Jeweliana; and many nieces and nephews and their children. He was son to the late Robert J. and Rita M. (Tournoux) Jacquet.

Tommy was born in Massillon, Ohio in 1947 and graduated from Washington High School in 1965. He received a baseball scholarship to attend Marietta College where he earned his teaching degree in 1969.  His early career at Indian River High School demonstrated his heart for teaching youth in his community, and later in life he ended his working career in car sales.

Tom was a gifted baseball player who loved the game from his early childhood. He played in both high school and college, where he was known for his speed in center field and around the bases. His highest achievement was signing a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals, before ultimately being drafted into the military. He continued to play and coach the game of baseball throughout his life, and softball as well, which led to his induction into the Canton Amateur Softball Hall of Fame. He passed on his knowledge and passion of the game through coaching his children, his grandchildren, and his friends and colleagues, giving him the endearing nickname of “Coach Jacquet”.

Outside of baseball, his hobbies included sailing, golfing, fishing, woodworking and playing cards.

Most importantly, Thomas loved the Lord Jesus and shared his joy in Christ with those around him. He could be heard singing hymns and praises in church, or his favorite Bob Dylan tunes while driving his car. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. The joy and laughter he brought to all will be greatly missed.
