William B. Barnard

William "Bill" Barnard, age 89 of North Canton, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022. 
He was born April 16,1932, in Akron, the son of the late Ralph and Winifred Barnard.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Kenmore High School and attended Akron U from 1950 - 1953.  He Joined the Chi Frat.  
He had served in the Army in 1953 was a 2Lt. He joined the AirForce and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in as a Staff Sgt. from 1953 to 1957.  He was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grds, MD.  He was a aircraft mechanic for B-29's. 
Following the war he continued his college career in Maryland at John Hopkins.  He returned to Kent State and Ohio State to obtain a degree in Business Administration in Banking.  He also continued at the University of Connecticut.  
He joined the Akron Savings/Transohio as a Branch Manager and served there for 22 years.  He soon retired to part-time work at Lowes Co. of North Canton.
He met his wife, Janet Elaine (Powell), in North Canton in 1959 and married in 1960.  
His hobbies included collecting duck images and lighthouse replicas.  In later years, he and Jan bought and RV and traveled for several years searching out those lighthouses in Michigan and the East Coast.  
In addition to his wife, Janet, Bill is survived by his daughter, Lisa Shaw of North Canton; son, Craig L. (Jodi) Barnard of Jackson Twp.;  grandchildren, Nathan and Joseph Shaw and great-grandson, Roy Shaw.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dennis Barnard
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 11 A.M., Heitger Funeral Home - Jackson Chapel, 5850 Wales Ave. N.W., Massillon, with Rev. Dale Smith officiating.
Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 A.M.
Burial to follow the service at North Canton Cemetery.
