James Charlton Maier

October 17, 1925 ~ November 30, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

James C. Maier age 91 of Massillon passed away peacefully, November 30, 2016 to join his wife Mary Dolores in God’s arms. He was surrounded by his loving family and caring staff of Bethany House. James was born October 17th 1925 in Massillon Ohio to the late William and Margaret (Charlton) Maier and was a lifetime resident there. He graduated from St. John High School and attended The University of Dayton before enlisting in the U.S Navy. to serve in WWII. After the war ended, he returned to Massillon and worked with his brother’s at their bakery shop. He was employed as the head of retail accounting at McLain’s Grocery/Flemmings Food Inc. He worked there until his retirement. He married Mary Dolores Brogan at St. Joseph Catholic Church on May 28, 1949. They had four children soon afterwards. James and Mary Dolores were lifetime members and very active at St. Barbara Parish in many capacities. James was also involved with The Twelve Inc. He was devoted to his wife and family and enjoyed following his children and grandchildren through out their many activities and careers. James is survived by his sons, James T. ( Elaine) Maier, Jere M. (Margie) Maier, Neil W. (Cindy) Maier and daughter Sharon Kaczmarczyk. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Dr. Megan (Tim) Staub, Kathleen (Shawn) Steele, Christina (Brian) Busch, Patrick (Allyson) Maier, Drs. Christopher (Chanttel) Kaczmarczyk, Lindsey (Isaac) Schuette, Elizabeth Maier, and Natalie Kaczmarczyk. They also have six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister’s, Mary Margaret Chaddock, Germaine Jenkins of Massillon and Barbara Jenkins of Colorado. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother’s William, John and David Maier. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 2 to 5 P.M. at Heitger Funeral Home - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. N.E., Massillon. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11 A.M. at St. Barbara Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Cline and Fr. Thomas Cebula celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Barbara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Barbara's School, 2809 Lincoln Way West Massillon, Ohio 44647, or to Canton Central Catholic High School 4824 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, 44708.
